Tiles
Ceramics + Glazes
These tiles are made from ceramics, and took about a year to design
and produce. I had become fascinated by the tesselations and patterns
found in islamic architecture, specifiaclly the tiles. I designed
these completely from scratch, not useing an existing design as
a base. My first avenue of exploration were stars, and i tried many
variations. Looking at the negative space between them, I started
to come up with the rough shape seen above. having sketched the
shape, I moved onto the computer, and using Illustateor, ensured
that all the angles were correct and that all shapes fitted together.
I started producing the 'main' pieces, and then added the centre
(blue) bits and the small squares to round it off. there are also
'half' main pieces, that give the tiles an edge, rather than having
them tesselate for ever. |
